Allegations of Racism in DC Fire Department-Feb - Part 2

Thursday, April 3, 2008

On a somewhat rainy Friday at lunchtime, E.R.A.S.E. was heard just to the right of the steps of Wilson Building (City Hall to those of you who don’t live in DC). We took the fight to City Hall because our attempts to let city leadership know of the crimes being committed by our Fire Chief seem to fall on disinterested ears, i.e., 2 council members reported to us that they were "investigating" and the mayor said that his hands were tied.

The union has not responded to date, nor have they been a part of any of the solutions; most firefighters believe that they are in bed with the administration. Because of the lack of response by the Union, they have been chosen as the next target to be protested.

We had at least 10 Firefighters and EMS workers come out; 5 or more organizations were represented; 1,500 flyers were passed out to people who live all over the country, who passed by and or stopped.

We did have some detractors initially; an "Uncle Tom" came out and tried to deter us but once he and the police officer that he called over were reminded that we knew our 1st amendment rights and were abiding by them, they tucked their tails back between their legs and left.

We also made face-to-face contact with two of our noble council members, Jim Graham and Carol Schwartz. Even they gave us positive feedback, that which we have yet to receive from our Mayor.

Pictures and audio will be coming soon

There will be a community meeting to talk about the activities of Deputy Fire Chief Brian Lee. ANCs 7D and 7C are the areas affected by and concerned about racism and graft.

A luta continua [the struggle continues].

What's up with the commitment to chime in and comment. I saw a lot of folk at the rally in Feb and certainly a lot of folk passing by during the rally a couple weeks ago. Brothers and sisters: we have got to get others to chime in...for silence is very often interpreted as approval. You need to verbalize your comments in writing. You need to refer it to others who support the eradication of racial oppression. Pass on the link to the blog. Refer folk to the videos. It is also happening in other parts of the country. If at any time people will listen...this is that time. There is a special coming on this evening relating to a racial discussion and one who found the folk who owned his family ancestors, Obama running for President, attacks on sports figures, inadequate schools, many children left behind, politics being played at your expense...what's up. Is this REAL or is it MEMOREX? Where do you stand? What do you stand for. Who stands with you. I leave you with this and request as humbly as possible...let's support one another and cease the divide and conquer mentalities. I stand against poverty, racism, sexism and all forms of oppression and know many of you do as well. Let's support one another.
In Germany they first came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up

In the Alfred Hawkins Story, "The Accidental Crusader", he will continue his fight for justice. He was framed in an accident by an EMS Supervisor that he did not commit. All agents, parties, workers and servants of the district of columbia involved miliciously blamed Mr. Hawkins for an accident he did not commit. Mr. Hawkins will continue his crusade until allegly the perpetrators are brought to justice. That the perpetrators will be reprimanded, suspended or terminated for allegely obstructing justice and breaking EMS policies, procedures and rules.

If the DC Government is in the business of complicities and bribery of its citizens to settle a small claim case to protect its police officers and its ems officers in their wrong doings then this government "Runs on Wheels" not by laws. The Alfred Hawkins Story, September 29, 2006 #06-269
